A Passion for Literacy

Pam James founded Pam's Reading in 2005 with a single mission: to give every child the tools they need to become a confident, independent reader. What began as a small tutoring practice in Charlotte has grown into one of the region's most respected Orton Gillingham programs.

Pam is an award-winning literacy specialist recognized by the International Dyslexia Association. Her multisensory, structured literacy approach has helped hundreds of students — from struggling kindergarteners to high schoolers preparing for college — unlock their full reading potential.

Core Beliefs

Every Child Can Learn to Read

Pam believes deeply that with the right approach, every child — regardless of learning difference — can become a confident, capable reader.

Science-Based Instruction

Every lesson is grounded in the science of reading. The Orton Gillingham approach is research-proven and endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association.

One-on-One Attention

Each student receives individualized instruction tailored to their unique learning profile, pace, and goals — never a one-size-fits-all program.

Partnership with Families

Parents are partners in the process. Pam keeps families informed and involved so progress continues beyond the tutoring session.

When my son was first diagnosed with Autism and Dyslexia, I was relieved to have answers, but I lost all confidence in teaching him to read. He was homeschooled, and I knew I needed a tutor. I wasn’t sure I would be able to find the right person to help. Thankfully, I quickly found Ms. Terry through Pam’s Reading! Not only did she teach him to read, but she also did so virtually, with such kindness and patience its now its my son’s favorite pastime. I am forever grateful for Ms. Terry. I highly recommend her to anyone who has a child that needs help with reading.
